1906 Grace Murray Hopper is born on December 9th in New York City.
1924 Grace is accepted into and begins studies at Vassar College.
1928 Grace graduates from Vassar with a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics and physics. She begins graduate studies at Yale University.
1930 On June 15th, she marries Vincent Foster Hopper when she was 23 years old.
1934 Grace receives a PH.D in mathematics from Yale University. She is one of four women in the program.
1943 Grace joins the WAVES, a branch of the U.S. Naval Reserve.
1944 Grace is promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
1946 Grace is released from active duty. She hopes to transfer to the Navy but she is 40 years old and the cutoff age is 38.
1952 Grace develops the first computer compiler called the A-o System.
1969 Grace is the first person named Computer Science Man of the Year by the Data Processing Management Association.
1973 Grace is promoted to the rank of Captain.
1985 Grace is promoted to Rear Admiral. At the time, she is the seventh woman ever to become this.
1986 On August 14th, at the age of 79, she retires from the navy. A retirement ceremony takes place on the USS Constitution.
1991 Grace receives the National Medal of Technology which is the United States's highest honor in engineering and technology. She is the first woman recoginzied with the award.
1992 On New Year's Day, Grace suffers a heart attack in her sleep and passes away at 86 years old.
